Your role
As a Front-end Developer, you'll be responsible for creating visually appealing, responsive, and accessible user interfaces that set the standard for usability and performance. This role leans heavily into design and UI/UX, requiring a keen eye for detail.
The role is very much "Front of Front-end", so creating the parts of websites and applications that users interact with directly.
You will focus on building the user interface (UI) to make it visually appealing, intuitive to use, and accessible to everyone. This involves writing code using languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to bring designs to life.
Day to day you will:

Analyse customer requirements (including direct contact meetings) and assist with project budgeting and scheduling

Liaise with teams/individuals (e.g., designers, account manager, 3rd party providers) to develop and refine high-level design concepts

Develop website front-end presentation layer (i.e., HTML/CSS/JavaScript)

Maintain and evaluate changes to existing websites (both in-house and 3rd party developments)

Adhere to in-house standards on development practices e.g., source control, coding style guides, processes, as well as formal standards such as WCAG accessibility and W3C best practices for HTML/CSS

Perform other duties as directed
What we’re looking for from you:
You will be a seasoned Front-end Developer who is organised, a team player with demonstrable knowledge of web-based development and accessibility guidelines and practices.

HTML

Comprehensive understanding of HTML semantics, accessibility best practices, and cross-browser compatibility.

CSS/SCSS
-
Excellent CSS skills, including preprocessors like SCSS/Sass and responsive design principles.

JavaScript
-
Comprehensive understanding of core JavaScript concepts such as DOM manipulation, event handling, and ES6+ features.

Web Accessibility
-
Understanding of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)

Experience in implementing accessibility features such as proper semantic HTML, ARIA roles and attributes, and keyboard navigation.

Familiarity with accessibility testing tools like Axe, Lighthouse, or WAVE.

Knowledge of the importance of web usability, accessibility & standards

UI/UX Principles
-
Understanding of user interface and user experience principles, ability to translate wireframes and designs into responsive and user-friendly interfaces.

Cross-browser and Cross-device Compatibility

Knowledge of techniques to ensure consistent rendering across different browsers and devices.

Animation and Interaction
-
Proficient in CSS animations, transitions for creating interactive UI elements.

Web Performance
-
Proficient in performance techniques such as lazy loading, images optimisation, and resource minification.

Experience with GIT / Version control systems

Excellent communication and team-working skills

Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritise workload

Ability to work well on your own and within a team environment

Demonstrable experience of web-based development using HTML, JavaScript, CSS and associated tools and frameworks

Able to resolve issues effectively in a timely fashion

Able to utilise rapid development techniques in an agile environment
